ABOUT

Jacob (he/him) was born and raised on unceded and occupied Native Mohican land (also known as New York's Capital Region). He is passionate about myriad social activism issues, but focuses his energy on intersectional environmentalism (read as: Climate Change is real and disproportionately affects BIPOC). He is a huge outdoorsman and is currently hiking the 46 Adirondack High Peaks.

As an artist, he hopes to help develop projects that expand accessibility to theatre, present less examined perspectives, and are focused on enacting positive change within and without the industry.

Jacob plays a multitude of instruments and is also a singer-songwriter. Favorite bands and musical influences include The Decemberists, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucius, Janelle Monae, Glen Hansard, Hayley Williams, The Avett Brothers, among countless others.

Young Hero is not usually a stand-out role, but he is here. True, he has some of the better Sondheim songs, and Jacob Shipley manages dewy innocence, affability and a sweet fulsome tenor; the addition of a guitar to the Rodgers & Hart styled “Love, I Hear” is an adroit touch.-The Ithaca Times

"As Jack, Jacob Shipley has boundless energy, fine dance skills and an impressive singing voice. He also brings abundant boyish charm to the role, and a fine sense of comedy."
